Blues, often referred to as music of the soul, has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. Music, be it of any genre, arouses emotions inside each one of us, emotions that we can relate to. Music, whatever genre it might be, brings people together, makes them believe, makes them forget, makes them remember and most of all makes them smile, within their hearts.
Most Blues festivals in India are spread over a few days in the year, but after they are over and done with, the genre is slowly forgotten. We would like people to enjoy this genre throughout the year, by having such concerts every month.
I am amazed at the talented bunch of youngsters taking to this style, but sadly there is very little exposure for them besides playing small gigs in pubs or clubs. Most Blues musicians in India are known more in their own cities, rather than on a national level. We want to provide a credible platform to Indian Blues artistes from across the country, youngsters getting a chance to share stage with seasoned Bluesmen. Blues artistes across the country connecting on a national stage.
There is a long way to go before The Blues has the same popularity and appeal in India that it enjoys in the west but through this initiative, we hope to make that difference. The intent is to make this a full-fledged, year round event.
We have taken a step forward, created the platform, now it requires the support of the music loving public at large, to support this beautiful genre on a much bigger scale. As Albert Collins said 'Simple music is the hardest to play, and Blues is simple music'
